The My Chiro story

Are you searching for the right to free movement in your life?

Like you, I once took easy movement for granted.

In my early twenties, I took my able body around Indonesia to explore on a moped. I was already needing a break from the grind of shift work in the city. Although I didn't realise it at the time, this was the moment a seed was planted for my life's direction.

Despite what the journey might suggest, I wasn’t soul-searching. Instead, it brought about a painful chain of events.

It began four weeks into the three-month trip. I was finishing up an island-hopping adventure; I may have been sober but I was tired and quickly approaching a long gravel bend on my moped. Riding at 60kmh and all things considered, you’ve probably seen it coming more clearly than I did: wipe out. The right-hand side of my body was wrecked. My knee ruptured, my hip grazed deeply, and my collar bone snapped cleanly in two.

As I lay in my hospital bed, my first thoughts were that I would heal over the next month and squeeze in some bodyboarding for the final month of my trip.

How naive I was.

Sure, one month passed and my injuries had healed in a traditional sense. But I was left with excruciating chronic knee pain. It was time to head home to the UK.

As soon as I landed, I went to specialists for X-Rays and MRIs but no one could find the cause of the immobilising pain.

I was 22 and frustrated. I couldn't exercise or play sports without constant agonising pain under my right knee. The only help I could receive was painkillers prescribed from doctors who told me I would have to learn to live with the pain.

The frustration pointed at something inside me that, deep down, knew there were other ways to get my body moving freely again. Where to look for those options was another question; I needed some direction.

So I was recommended a chiropractor. At the time, I thought, “thank you, but what on earth is one of those?”

Despite the confusion, I found myself visiting a local chiropractor about my immobilising pain.

Turns out that was the right thing to do because I never looked back.
After my first-ever chiropractic adjustment, something was different. I felt energy. I felt a connection. I felt free movement. Could it be too good to be true? I had to test it.

I went from a stroll on the beach which turned into a gentle jog and felt great. Then, without a thought, I sprinted across the sand, feeling exhilarated. That’s when I realised my knee pain had gone.

The freedom I felt at that moment was monumental, an experience I can't fully put into words. But one thing was for certain: I had my body back, and I had my life back.

The profound transformation from that first chiropractic adjustment made me realise that I had discovered my calling. The seed that had been planted back in Indonesia had sprouted.

Inspired and empowered by my newfound health, I wanted to share this skill with the world, so I enrolled in chiropractic college in Oxford.

Knowing first-hand how life-changing somebody's hands can be inspired me to start this career. That’s how My Chiro was born.

Ten years on, my life's purpose is constantly being fulfilled. My Chiro exists to instil hope for a better future through movement.

Change is possible for every person who walks through our door. We inspire and motivate our community to see a brighter future for themselves. We are providing opportunities for those who don't know where to turn while showing unconditional love and care.

"Movement is nature's gift to us all, yet people have lost their power and forgotten how to play in their bodies. Becoming unconsciously stuck in a cycle of ageing, deterioration and stagnation.

We break the cycle and help them rediscover their bodies' natural power.”
